On Sunday, June 6, 2010 MRCN hosted an informal tour of rain gardens throughout Columbia.  There were 6 participating homeowners who opened their homes (or rather, yards) to interested individuals and hopefully some future gardeners!  In addition, there were 10 other rain garden sites on the tour that were located on nonresidential properties such as schools, parks and even a fire station.  Though these are open to the public every day, many took the chance to drop by them while they were in the rain garden frame of mind.

Nearly 30 people registered for the tour online, and many others joined as they were invited by friends and neighbors.  Some dropped by Flat Branch Park to pick up maps just that afternoon, most likely enticed by the gorgeous weather.

Hopefully, participating homeowners can now see that a rain garden really can fit into a backyard setting!  With this new knowledge and inspiration, MRCN is now waiting for that round of phone calls from people wanting site visits and plant guides!
