Although few brave souls would be willing to spend a cold, winter evening outside on the Missouri River, on December 15, 2009 MRCN collaborated with Missouri River Relief and Rivermiles to host a double event that allowed river lovers to spend their evening forthe Missouri River.  The first half of the event consisted of a fundraiser held at Shakespeare’s Pizza in Columbia, MO. Pizza lovers presented a flier at the time of purchase, and just like that, 15% of the proceeds came to MRCN!  This event lasted all day long, but between 6:30-8:30 p.m. the real party was a few blocks away…

At Rag Tag Cinema, the world premiere of The Next 340 Miles took place in front of a sold-out audience.  This 80-minute documentary chronicles the Missouri River 340, the longest river race in the world.  Running from Kansas City to St. Charles, this grueling race requires both physical and mental stamina for racers and support crews alike.  Following the showing, a panel discussion was held featuring filmmaker Jodi Pfefferkorn, race organizer Scott Mansker and several veteran racers.  When all was said and done, a few film goers carried the party back over to Shakespeare’s to participate in the last few hours of the fundraiser.

Overall, the combined “dinner and a movie night” was a huge success, with people coming from as far as Saint Louis to join in on the fun.  As a few unfortunate folks were turned down when the tickets were sold out, everyone is hoping for a repeat showing in the coming weeks!
