The Eco-Art Festival took place on September 12-13, 2009 at Coopers Landing, a favorite for many, located right on the Missouri River. This was the first event for our new group of Missouri Clean Water AmeriCorps Members, and some were nervous about being on the other side of the table. However, they soon realized they were surrounded by good conscientious people- fellow MRCN crew and festival-goers.
We set up a display of macroinvertebrates, rain gardens and rain barrels with many pamphlets and handouts full of information. This was for the adults. The children had recyclable plastic bottles, scissors, and non-toxic markers. The children entertained themselves by making creations out of plastic bottles. This proved entertaining for some of the adults as well.
There were numerous booths, including many non-profit educational and environmental groups in addition to local artists and craftspersons. There was live music all day. It was good oppourtunity to network with other organizations, but the event really helped the new AmeriCorps Members get to know each other and help better understand what MRCN does.
