Annoucements:
Rain Garden Seminar
We are excited to announce that we will be having our first Rain Garden Seminar on Friday, July 31, 2009. The seminar will feature talks on rain gardens as a solution for stormwater, plants used in rain gardens, and planning and installing a rain garden. A tour of local rain gardens will follow lunch in the afternoon. More Information
A rain garden is a garden that is designed to capture stormwater from an impervious surface (i.e a roof, driveway, or even a lawn). Planted with native plants, the rain gardens will slow the water down and allow it to perculate back into the soil, as it would in a more natural setting.
Here are some reasons to have a rain garden in YOUR yard:
(Rain Gardening and Stormwater Management, Shaw Nature Reserve)
- Erosion Control
- Maintenance
- Beautification
- Wildlife Habitat
- Education
