The Missouri Clean Water AmeriCorps Members at MRCN are currently making rain barrels to sell to the public. Rain barrels
reduce the negative effects of stormwater runoff and help conserve water by capturing water coming off rooftops. It helps us keep
excess water out of the stormwater sewer systems and keeps rain runoff from carrying pollutants into nearby waterways.
Rain barrels
can hold water to provide water during dry weather or you can set them to slowly release the water over a 1-2 day period when the
rains have subsided. The slower the release of rain will allow the water to seep into the soil and can be used by plants. Collected
rainwater is better for plants because it is not chlorinated (although it is mildly acidic), which helps the plants take up important
minerals from the soil
