LEWIS AND CLARK and
MISSOURI RIVER HISTORY
Using the 1804 Lewis and Clark Bicentennial and the river's
history as a foundation,
we are building a broad base of support for sustainable economic development based on eco-tourism, river recreation,
and environmental education and improvement, in Missouri River communities. Our goal is a lasting legacy of sustainable tourism that will help preserve the heritage of local river communities, enhance the
environment and balance these new opportunities with existing economic endeavors
(such as farming and navigation) to support river towns in the Missouri River basin.

Sponsored by the Missouri River Communities Network, this project was funded by a grant from the Missouri Community

made educational presentations to schools and community groups. The projects objectives
were to:

Missouri

- Help Missouri River communities plan and implement Lewis and Clark Commemoration
activities and prepare for the visitors
- Help improve infrastructure and services for recreational boaters on the Missouri River
- Increase people's understanding of the value of, and the methods for, improving water quality in the Missouri River and its
tributaries
- Help Missouri citizens participate as volunteers in the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration
activities
The 2004 Missouri Bicentennial Commemoration
Lewis & Clark Exploration Outpost is completed!
Congratulations and thank you to all of the AmeriCorps Members who worked hard to make this a successful undertaking. As a group, we set up the Exploration Outpost for 21 events, from St. Louis' Forest Park to the Rockport KOA Campground in
northwest Missouri. We also provided interpretation, educational information and literature to thousands of citizens across the state.
