MRCN is working with Dr. Elizabeth Barham of the University of Missouri Regional Cuisines Project to develop and market the
Missouri River Valley using distinct labels of origin based on ecological regions of the state. Promoting unique Missouri products
will mean greter recognition and economic oportunities for our state's food producers, while strengthening the tourism industry in
rural communities.
The project is reaching out to wineries, farmer's markets, local food producers, the owners of B&B's,
craft shops, art galleries, local cafes, bike shops, museums, and other businesses of interest to visitors to the Missouri River Valley.
The gaol is to develop a strategy to market the food, wine, and heritage based activities of our unique region to the whole world.
There
are currently four defined regions: Mississippi River Hills, Old Trails, Manitou-Osage Bluffs, and Missouri River Valley.
The Mississippi River Hills Region was the project's pilot region and has made much progress in their economic and community development.
The Old Trails and Manitou-Osage Bluffs Regions has regular meetings of stakeholders in the region.
